Bob worked for the Veteran's Administration hospitals in Lincoln and Omaha on the Psychology Service for his first four years of graduate school. Gretchen worked at the Lincoln-Lancaster County Child Guidance Center in Lincoln during the same time period. We both did a year long, full time internship at the Nebraska Psychiatric Institute, which was a branch of the University of Nebraska Medical School. There we rotated through all of the services, getting both evaluation and treatment experience with developmental disabilities, childhood problems, adult disorders, and various treatment modalities, including individual, group, marital, and family. This internship was accredited by the American Psychological Association. After receiving our doctorate degrees, Gretchen continued to work as a child psychologist at the Guidance Center, while Bob became a psychology professor at Nebraska Wesleyan University, becoming their first director of the Biopsychology Program. We both did some private work, and Bob did informal counseling of students during this time. After four years, we moved to Adrian, MI when Bob accepted the Chair of the Dept. of Psychology at Adrian College in 1973. One quarter of Bob's time was released to do psychotherapy and counseling for the Student Development Center at the college. The following year, Gretchen started a private practice of clinical psychology, Warwick Associates. Bob left Adrian College in 1976 to head Lenawee County Community Mental Health Services when it became a direct provider of clinical mental health services. Bob completed his work of designing and implementing the clinical program at Lenawee County CMH in 1981 and joined Gretchen in the private practice, which had grown beyond the capacity of one psychologist. We remain working as a husband and wife clinical psychology team to this day. Warwick Associates is by far the oldest and most experienced mental health private practice in Lenawee County, having been registered with the county and seeing patients since 1974. |
