PPO, Etc.

The insurance industry is constantly changing. There are so many different medical plans that it is a rare patient who has any idea of what their insurance covers. Even if they do understand it, their employer will change plans next month!
The current fad is to bind medical providers into "networks". This means you get some added benefit, such as not having to pay a deductible, if you go to a provider in your network. These networks, at best, can be a reasonable way for an insurer to know the qualifications of the person whom they are reimbursing for your treatment. The worse example of a network is a managed care plan where the provider is, in effect, working for the insurance company, not for you.
We are very selective about the networks with whom we participate. We do not take new patients who have managed care plans, because we do not feel we can ethically treat people, properly serving them, while having a binding contract to serve their insurance company. On the other hand, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan offer a few network plans that do not prevent us from providing that which we feel is appropriate treatment. This arrangement is comfortable for us, since we have been Blue Cross and Blue Shield approved medical providers for well over thirty years.
We participate in Blue Cross Blue Shield TRUST provider panel which serves Blue Preferred, and Community Blue plans. Note that we do not participate with Blue Preferred Plus which is a different network--not confusing--right??
