There are all kinds of traditional insurance plans that vary between insurance companies and employers. We have spent over 25 years figuring out what "outpatient psychiatric benefits" are available in a given plan. For example, you may have a Blue Shield policy, but every one seems to be different. We can talk to their computer and get some idea about your coverage. There is almost always a co-pay, where you have to pay a percentage of the cost of a visit. There is also usually a deductible where the first $??? of your medical expenses have to be paid by you before your insurance plan begins to pay anything. This deductible may already have been met, however, if you had illness treated by your medical doctor earlier in your contract year. Medical billing is a specialty in itself, and the insurance companies certainly do not make it easy--after all if anything is not filled out correctly they don't have to pay! We will help you figure out your insurance benefits during the initial telephone contact. If you want to try to read your insurance policy, the key words are "outpatient psychiatric benefits". Careful not to confuse the benefits with "inpatient" or what the insurer will pay if you are hospitalized. Another pitfall is when the policy says it pays 80 % of the session charges. You have to find out how they define "session charges". It might be based on a maximum session charge of 30 dollars! It is all quite an interesting game! |
