Genealogy &
Computers - A Natural !

This genealogy program
was presented Monday, October
19th, at 6:00 PM,
in the Lenawee County Library meeting room.
The program was presented by Lenawee County librarian,
Phyllis Rickard . Phyllis is an experienced genealogist, and brings the
special research skills of a librarian to the hobby. Tracing ancestors
using public computer data bases and using special programs which organize
the data and build reports are all part of a days work. Phyllis has been
doing genealogy before the personal computer became sophisticated enough to
revolutionize the field. She knows how to do old the fashion detective
work that is the first requirement to be able to carry out successful searches.
Phyllis always presents a good program and we are very fortunate that she was
able to agree to share her knowledge with the club.
Phyllis did a very thorough job preparing for the program, including a
half hour orientation to genealogical research, a
PowerPoint presentation, and a
handout giving the URLs of a large number of research sites and data
bases. With a little help from Harry Potter, we have converted this
material into formats that will display on the web and you can see them all by
following the above links (you may need to use the latest Internet Explorer for
this to display correctly--it doesn't work in Firefox.)
