Next Meeting

The next meeting of the Lenawee PC Users Group will be Monday, February 13th, at  6:00 PM, in the Lenawee County Library meeting room.    Our meetings usually on the third Monday of the month starting promptly at 6:00 P.M. and ending at 7:45 P.M.  The February meeting is on the second week of the month because the library is closed on President's Day.

Sandi Meeker will present the program on Windows 7 --with a little kibitzing from Bob Warwick.  Sandi has had formal training in Windows 7 as part of her job with the library.  There is no better way to learn most of the tricks of a new operating system than to learn it from an instructor who has the new material organized.  Most of us have to learn a new system by trial and error which is not very efficient.  Sandi has agreed to save us a lot of grief by sharing her knowledge about Windows 7.

Experience has shown that when Microsoft comes out with a new operating system it usually is not a good idea to be first in line to try it out.  Getting a system that will run flawlessly on every possible machine configuration is really technically impossible.  Some of their operating system failures never could be patched well enough to make it worth while to change.  The latest semi-failure example is Vista following XP.  XP is a stabile efficient operating system and Vista never did reach the level of reliability that was available in the older XP operating system.  Windows 7 , however, got it right!  It uses concepts from XP and Vista, combined together with brand new code that runs almost flawlessly.  The Service Packs have that have come out since the first roll out of Windows 7 have fixed most of the remaining bugs.  I use Windows 7 on my main machine and enjoy the simplification of many tasks that were more complicated in the earlier operating systems.  On the rest of the computers that live in our house, we still run XP, since it does the job without complaint.  If you are thinking about changing operating systems, now is the time to seriously consider Windows 7.  You will be pleased!

This is a more complex program than usual, and we may run longer than an hour, cutting into our general question and answer segment.  We will try to leave some time for questions about other topics besides Windows 7, but my guess is that there will be a lot of questions about the operating system.

Anyone with an interest in learning more about computers is invited to attend the meetings.    For more information, visit our website at www.warwick-associates.com/lug

Come join the fun!
