In general we do not do managed care. Under this system we, in effect, would work for the insurance company, and not for you. We would have to call someone to "get permission" to see you for a few visits, then call back and beg for more visits, etc. We found we were spending more time filling out paper work and talking to someone who was counting pennies on the phone than we were treating people. And for the privilege of having this experience, we would get reimbursed at about one third less than our standard fee! Manage care is not about care; its about managing cost to enhance the bottom line of the insurance company. It places us in ethically untenable positions, balancing the welfare of the client against the welfare of the insurance company. This situation is simply unacceptable to us. |
